Join us for a special summer edition of Stomping Grounds Open Stage, an evening of storytelling, spoken word, music, and community as part of Make Music Chicago.
This month’s featured artist is Jovan Landry, a multidisciplinary artist whose work spans hip-hop, film, photography, and visual art. One-third filmmaker, one-third photographer, and one-third emcee, Jovan has spent nearly two decades creating work rooted in empowerment, authenticity, and collaboration.
A graduate of Columbia College Chicago with a B.A. in Film & Video, Jovan has directed music videos, dance films, and documentaries, performed original hip-hop on stages around the world, and self-released five projects. Her work has been featured by NPR, Bandcamp, and the Chicago Tribune.
In 2017, Jovan received the WeWork Creator Award to produce Synergy, Chicago's first all-women-produced, performed, and engineered hip-hop album. Today she continues composing music for artists, producing podcasts and dance scores, teaching screen dance, and hosting the Invite Only Podcast. A three-time natural bodybuilding champion, Jovan's work embodies creativity, discipline, and self-determination.
